Waste Water & Sewage
Waste and waste water are responsible for 2.8% of global greenhouse gas emissions (IPCC 2007)

Sewage disposal is a major problem in developing countries as many people in these areas do not have access to sanitary conditions and clean water.
Waste water and sewage are responsible of serious environmental problems in our society like eutrophication of water bodies, damages on ecosystems, decrease of water quality, and decrease of biodiversity in affected ecosystems.
Both waste water and sewage are composed by a wide variety of compounds including pathogens, organic and inorganic products, pesticides, fertilizers, heavy metals, toxins, pharmaceutical products and gases. Thereby, they must be treated in water treatment plants prior to being discharged into the environment to remove the contamination charge. Nevertheless some of the removed compounds and/or products can be reused for other purposes. For example during waste water treatment methane is generated in significant amounts. Recovering it may offer an important decrease on greenhouse gas emissions and, it can be used for energy production.

Global Gateways' energy plants will not increase the pressure on water bodies. GG will not increase water demand nor generate waste water and sewage.
Initially the power plant will use non-potable water that will be replaced by the waste water obtained from the MSW once the power plant has started to operate achieving a net water balance. The water vapor generated during the pyrolysis process will be recovered to be reused again in the power generation process. Once water cannot be reused again, effluents will be treated before discharging.
GG’s energy plant will produce an important amount of energy but without waste water and sewage generation due to several reasons:
-    Waste water treatment before discharging, ensuring compliance with governments’ environmental standards
-    Removal of large sewage lagoons generated by depositing MSW in landfill as they will be treated in Global Gateways’ plant for energy production
-    GG waste to energy plants have a net positive water balance
